Tributes are pouring in the following the death of a West Midland’s Honorary Life Member and netball legend. June passed away on the 11th June 2025, the day before her 92nd birthday.
June’s netball journey started in Birmingham as a member of Harborne Netball Club where she became a very talented player going on to play for County and Region and also for England.
She has been described as a wonderful, generous person, always ready to offer help and give advice. Following and during her playing days she became a coach, umpire, and administrator. So many members of the netball family, not just within the West Midlands have benefited from her support. June took so many netballers under her wing.
June was netball within Birmingham, devoting herself to Harborne, Birmingham County and the West Midlands Regional Committee. She was not only Regional Treasurer for over 30 years until moving to Cornwall but also the Treasurer for the West Midlands Centre of Excellence. Many benefitted from the hospitality of June and her husband Jeff as they hosted all the Regional Executive, Umpiring and Coaching meetings at their house.
June was appointed President of England Netball in 1995 and in 2002 was awarded the MBE for her outstanding Service to netball. She became an England Netball Honorary Life Member in 2018.
The tributes for June have come from far and wide. A netballer from Australia has described her as an amazing netball icon…not only in the UK but internationally too. A wonderful lady and friend to many.
Dame Elizabeth Nichol, President of World Netball stated that June’s commitment to netball was unquestionable and that many netballers within Birmingham, the West Midlands and Nationally will remember June as a role model and who benefitted from her support and wise counsel.
The many tributes that have been received are testament to the respect that members of the entire Netball Family have for June.
Our deepest condolences are with her many friends in the game and her family.
